PStutorials : Chromic effect
 
1. Start by opening Rockies.tif
( c:\.....Adobe\PhotoShop 5.0\Goodies\Samples\Rockies.tif )
   
2. Type something in. (Big size. I used 300 p)
Color: Medium/Dark grey
Name the layer - Text
   
3. Create a New Layer.
Fill with White.
ctrl+click the Text layer.
Fill with Black
   
4.

Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur...
Radius: 10

Select All. (ctrl+A)
Cut out. (ctrl+x)

   
5. Create a New File. (ctrl+n)
Click OK with default settings.
Paste. (ctrl+v)
Save as: map.psd
   
6.

Back to the first image.
Right click the Text layer.
Choose effects...
Uncheck Dropshadow.
Choose - Bevel & Emboss.
Settings like this:

Change Depth & Blur depending on fontsize.

   
7.

Copy the Background layer and put the copy over the text layer.
Make it active.

Filter > Distort > Displace...

You will now be asked for a file. Point to the file we created at the beginning of this tutorial, map.psd. Klick OK

   
8.

(ctrl+click) the Text layer.
Invert Selection.
Hit Delete.
Deselect.

Set the background copy layer mode to Overlay (the top layer).

Fill background with a dark color.

   
9.

Create a New Layer.
(ctrl+click) the Text layer.
Fill with 90% white.
Set the Layer mode to: Color Dodge
Opacity: 35 - 65 %

If You aren´t satisfied with the color, change it by using Hue/Saturation until You are satisfied.

   
10.

Now U are finished and should have something like this:

TIPS!!!
For Golden Chromic look.
Instead of filling with 90% white fill with R: 255 G: 198 B: 0
Layer Mode: Color Burn
Opacity: 25 - 50 %

Copy the layer.
Set layer mode to Color Dodge
Opacity: 45 - 75 %

Should look something like this:
